International air traffic managed by the ENAIRE Control Centre in Seville up more than 13% in March
The rise in overall operations was 7.9 %
The ENAIRE Control Centre in Seville managed a total of 13,739 international flights in March, 12.9% more than the same month in 2016. Easter fell in March this year.
The total number of flights in March climbed to 29,121, a rise of 7.9%.
The centre managed 8,578 domestic flights (+1.7%) and 6,804 overflights (those that cross the airspace managed from Seville and that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport) (+6.6%).
First-quarter figures
In the first three months of the year, the Seville Control Centre managed 78,903 flights, 6.6% more, of which 36,561 were international (+11.4%), 23,040 were domestic (-0.2%) and 19,302 were overflights (+6.5%).
The Seville Control Centre and its associated towers manage the air traffic for the whole of the south of the peninsula, including not just Andalusia but also the province of Badajoz, a good part of Ciudad Real, Albacete and Murcia, and the entire Bay of Cadiz and all of the western Mediterranean, in addition to Ceuta and Melilla.
Total flights managed by ENAIRE
ENAIRE managed 140,715 flights across Spain in March, 4.4% more than the same month last year. It was the 42nd month in a row of uninterrupted air traffic growth.
Growth was strongest amongst international flights, which climbed to 79,314, or 4.6% more than last March.
There were 30,226 overflights (those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport) (6.3 %).
Traffic growth at the ENAIRE control centres was as follows: Seville (7.9%, 29,121 flights), Madrid (5.7%, 83,843 flights), Canaries (4.8%, 28,398 flights), Barcelona (3.1%, 58,453 flights) and Palma (-2.8 %, 13,242 flights).
The cumulative figures for January to March show that ENAIRE managed 385,622 flights across Spain, a rise of 5.2% and much higher growth than the European average of 2.7%. Of these, international flights (216,446) grew the most, at 6.9%, and accounted for 56% of total traffic in Spain.
