Still to receive figures from December, ENAIRE has managed more than 1.8 million flights, a 6.8% increase
The rise in traffic is well above the European average, which was 4.2% for the same period
With the figures from December still to come in, ENAIRE managed 1,853,899 flights in the first eleven months. This represents a 6.8% increase in flights, which is significantly higher than the European average for the same period, which was 4.2%.
At the end of 2017, it is estimated that the air traffic managed by ENAIRE will have transported 245 million people on over 2 million flights.
Out of all the flights managed up to November, 1,113,836 were international (+7.1%); 359,469 national (+4.3%), and 380,594 overflight (+8.2%).
All ENAIRE control centres increased their traffic so far: Seville, about 9.1% (352,594 flights); Canary Islands, 8.1% (300,555); Madrid, 7.9% (1,005,625); Barcelona, 5.7% (861,072) and Palma, 5.6% (300,989).
November figures
Last November, an 8% growth of air traffic was recorded, with 139,563 flights managed by ENAIRE. This shows an accelerated rhythm compared with the first eleven months (6.8%).
This also makes it the 50th month of uninterrupted growth in terms of traffic managed by ENAIRE.
All ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed in November: Seville (11.6% and 27,899), Canary Islands (11.4% and 30,171), Madrid (6.9% and 83,298), Palma (6.4% and 11,628) and Barcelona (6.1% and 55,615).
Out of the total figure for November, 77,123 were international flights (+6.4%); 32,149 national (+10.2%) and 30,291 overflights (flights where neither their origin nor destination were a Spanish airport), representing a 9.9% increase.
2020 Flight Plan
In 2016, ENAIRE managed 1.9 million flights, and in 2020 this is forecast to be 2.2 million. For this reason, ENAIRE's Strategic Plan, 2020 Flight Plan, responds to these capacity needs in an environment of growing demand and improved efficiency of air space, allowing users to optimise the distance flown thanks to the commitment of the company's professionals.
The public corporate entity ENAIRE is a company designated by the Ministry of Public Works to manage the fourth largest airspace in Europe in terms of traffic through 5 control centres, 22 control towers and a network of air traffic infrastructure and equipment.
