So far this year, ENAIRE has already operated 1.8 million flights
ENAIRE, the Spanish air navigation operator and fourth most important in Europe, handled more than 192,000 flights (192,726) in October, 6.5% more than in the same period in 2017.
Air traffic statistics have been steadily increasing for more than five years (61 months).
All types of traffic are increasing, especially domestic traffic, with 37,008 flights, an 8.7% increase. Domestic flights increased by two digits in the Canary Islands (+14.3%), Palma (13.1%) and Seville (12%) control centres.
International flights were 115,863 (+4.8%) and overflights (which do not depart from or arrive at a Spanish airport), 39,855, 9.3% more.
Air traffic statistics have been steadily increasing for more than five years (61 months).
The number of flights handled continues to increase sharply at all ENAIRE's air traffic control centres: Seville (+8.1% and 37,633 flights), Barcelona (+6.9% and 89,853), Madrid (+6.4% and 104,306), Palma (+6.2% and 31,551) and the Canary Islands (+5.7% and 30,538).
Preparing the '2019-2020 Summer Plan'.
Among the initiatives that ENAIRE has undertaken to improve air traffic management and increase its capacity for the 2019 and 2020 summer seasons, well worth highlighting are the new landing manoeuvres successfully implemented in April at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which are simplifying the work of air traffic controllers by reducing their workload and increasing the safety of arrivals by optimising operations.
ENAIRE is working on cutting edge solutions to improve traffic flow control during the peak season for airports. This will speed up landings and takeoffs and reduce delays while airborne, by using predictive techniques to analyse and help deal with large flight numbers.
