The ENAIRE Foundation announces its awards, which recognise photography, research and communications in air transport
A new prize has been created: “Innovation in the Drone Sector"
The ENAIRE Foundation, a cultural entity linked to ENAIRE, will hold the 24th edition of its awards, which recognise photography, research and communications in air transport.
In this 2019 edition the following prize has been included: “Innovation in the Drone Sector”, which awards innovative projects, studies or work related to drones.
There are five announcements and the works must be submitted before 17 May, except for the photography award, which must be submitted between 25 February and 29 March.
- The Luis Azcárraga Award acknowledges work, studies or projects published in 2018 in official Spanish languages or in English that offer a major contribution to air transport in terms of planning and organisation, economic and administrative management, environmental impact and protection, as well as technological research and innovation.
It is awarded annually and it consists of a sum of 12,000 euros.
- The José Ramón López Villares Award recognises theses about air navigation or airports presented in any official Spanish language or English by Spanish authors and qualified in 2018 in Bachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, as well as in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering, at any University.
A maximum amount of four prizes will be awarded, each of them consisting of 3,000 euros: two projects about air navigation and another two about airports.
- The Innovation in the Drone Sector Award acknowledges the innovative work in RPAS, clearly committing to the development of new use applications and the technologies employed for their design and manufacturing, as well as for their systems.
By means of this award, the ENAIRE Foundation intends to stimulate the sector's competitiveness and the generation of new technological and operational concepts.
It is awarded annually and it consists of a sum of 12,000 euros.
- The Journalism Award for editors that have carried out journalistic work published in 2018 in the official Spanish languages or in English in newspapers, magazines, online platforms or broadcast on radio or television in our country. The topic presented must be related to air transport and navigation, as well as airport facilities and services in general.
It is awarded annually and it consists of a sum of 12,000 euros.
- The Photography Award includes photographers that are residing in Spain or have exhibited in our country in the last 5 years. It will include original work, either artistic or of free subject matter, that has not received any prizes in any competitions. Every author may submit up to three photographs. The awarded works will form part of the ENAIRE Contemporary Art Collection.
Besides the awarded works, the jury will select ten additional works to include in a catalogue, as well as in an exhibition on the ENAIRE Foundation Photography Award, which will be held as of 5 June 2019 at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid and which will be the inaugural exhibition at the 2019 PHotoESPAÑA International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts.
12,000 euros will be awarded to the first prize, 8,000 euros to the second and 5,000 euros to the third.
Photographs must sent to the ENAIRE Foundation's registered offices (General Pardiñas, 116, 3ª planta, 28006 Madrid, 91 321 18 00 / 01 / 02), except those for the Photography Award. The work of the ENAIRE Foundation
The ENAIRE Foundation is a cultural organisation linked to ENAIRE. Its objectives include the fostering of aeronautical culture and the preservation, expansion and spreading of ENAIRE's artistic heritage. This heritage comprises a notable collection of Spanish and Ibero-American art, spanning from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. It encompasses more than a thousand paintings, sculptures, photographs, graphic art pieces, works on paper and multimedia artworks.
About ENAIRE
ENAIRE is the company belonging to the Public Works Department that handles air navigation in Spain. It renders aerodrome control services at 21 airports, including those with the most traffic.
All aircraft crossing the airspace assigned to our country receive communications, navigation and surveillance services using ENAIRE's modern network of facilities, consisting of:
5 control centres, 2 terminal area control centres, 308 radio aids providing en-route airport guidance and approach support, 54 en-route, approach and surface surveillance systems, 130 communications centres (combining transmitter/receiver centres and control towers), 100 REDAN voice and data communication nodes for air navigation applications, 126 control tower posts, and 153 control centre posts.
In 2018 ENAIRE operated 2.1 million flights to and from four continents (Europe, America, Asia and Africa), transporting 300 million passengers.
