ENAIRE announces tender for a flight verification service worth over one million euros

At its most recent meeting, the Board of Directors of ENAIRE, Spain's national air navigation manager, approved a tender worth as much as 1,031,580 euros for a flight verification service.

The purpose of this service is to ensure that navaids are properly maintained

The service contract is for three years, and may be extended by mutual agreement between the parties for a maximum of two years.

ENAIRE is certified to provide air navigation services. By virtue of this certificate, ENAIRE is obliged to comply with the requirements set out in EU Regulation 373/17, and is responsible for the service provided by a large number of navaid facilities.

Navaid maintenance procedures

In Spanish airspace, many of the procedures flown rely on instruments. This requires the existence of a network of radio facilities to provide the navigation service.

These air navigation aids, also known as navaids, are highly accurate radio facilities that, in accordance with the applicable international laws, must be verified periodically to be working properly.

Navaids must operate securely and precisely in order to serve their purpose, which is to provide the corresponding ground-to-air signal to aircraft within their coverage volume. These facilities have to be checked in flight both before they are commissioned and periodically afterward to ensure their proper operation.

ENAIRE, as a certified air navigation service provider, has procedures that specify the maintenance (tasks, frequency, etc.) that has to be performed on navaid facilities.

The flight verification service requires having an aircraft equipped with specific measuring devices to check the accuracy of the signals emitted by the various navaids.
