ENAIRE manages a record of 539 drone operations in May
ENAIRE held the third meeting of GO-DRON, a forum for drone operators to analyse proposals for improvement and the outlook for remotely-piloted aircraft flights and initiatives for improvement involving the needs of unmanned aviation, for both professionals and recreational users, as these relate to air navigation.
Drone operations in controlled airspace have increased almost 10-fold since April 2020
Drone operators, AECA, TEDAE, the Civil Aviation General Directorate, Aena, AESA, the Air Force Staff, the Department of Customs and Special Taxes of the Revenue Agency and the State Secretariat for Security, representing law enforcement, share the initiatives planned to streamline the process for users. The new initiatives shared include:
- The Air Force Staff reported that the procedures for each Air Force Base have been standardised to ease the process for users who wish to fly in these areas.
- drones.enaire.es shows the Special Bird Protection Areas (SPA) and protected natural spaces to ensure safe drone flights. During the meeting, it was reported that work will continue on harmonising the processes and deadlines for requesting operations in these environmentally protected areas, the approval of which depends on the entity responsible for each area (national, regional or local government).
- Coordination with the Ministry of the Interior's State Security Office is gradually facilitating operations in urban environments
- Suitability of standardising the criteria for managing operations in standard scenarios.
- In about a month, ENAIRE Planea, the platform for managing aerial work, available at planea.enaire.es, will integrate information from Aena for operations in airport environments.
- A specific forum was created to analyse model aircraft activities and pave the way for this hobby.
At this forum, ENAIRE announced that the number of requests for flight operations involving remotely piloted aircraft has continued to grow, especially those requested for airspace controlled by ENAIRE. In the last year, they have increased almost 10-fold.
A record number of operations, 539, was coordinated by ENAIRE in May. The number of operations in airspace controlled by ENAIRE (441), as well as the total number of drone flights coordinated, along with aerial works and other uses of airspace, totalled 635. 72% of these operations were requested in planea.enaire.es.
