ENAIRE and Vueling create a task force to look for digital solutions to airspace management

ENAIRE, Spain's national air traffic manager, and Vueling, an airline belonging to IAG, have created a task force to work on optimising flight efficiency and air management.

Its goal is to reduce the environmental impact of each flight by 10%

The objective is to use technology to modernise air traffic management and to do so jointly between ENAIRE and airlines in order to make the process more efficient.

The result of this partnership can also lead to new flight planning that makes flying more sustainable, the goal being to reduce CO₂ emissions by 10%.

This cooperation to design more sustainable flights is pioneering in Europe, as this is the first task force created by an airline and an air traffic manager that takes into account the operational complexities of European airspace.

Reduce emissions by one-tenth

The goal behind creating this task force, which consists of data experts, operations specialists, ENAIRE air traffic controllers and Vueling pilots, is to deliver on the improvements of the SESAR (Single European Sky Air Research) programme.

SESAR is a research and development project in the field of air traffic management in the Single European Sky, the aim of which is to modernise air traffic management in Europe. It provides the technological basis for the Single European Sky, whose main mission is to ensure that air transport in Europe can be developed sustainably and efficiently. One of its primary goals is to reduce the environmental impact of each flight by 10%.

IAG, the group that owns Vueling, is the first group of European airlines to commit to operating 10% of its flights with sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.

About ENAIRE

ENAIRE is the air navigation service provider in Spain.

As a company of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, it provides en route control services for all flights and overflights from five control centres in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Gran Canaria and Palma, as well as approach services to every airport in the country.
