The ENAIRE Foundation presents its Photography Awards at ARCO
In this edition of the ARCO Fair, the ENAIRE Foundation's stand will showcase the work of the winning artists from last year's edition of the photography award presented annually by the Foundation. The works are by the artists Marina Vargas, Cristóbal Ascencio and the team of Jonah Bel and Rafael Trapiello, winners of the prize in 2023.
The stand will also show the piece “Luz de pasado" (Light of the Past), a spectacular work by the artist Paloma Navares, the 2024 ENAIRE Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award winner. This work, done in 1993, is part of a series that Navares developed in the early 90s that explored transhumanism, and which invites us to reflect on the biological body, artificial devices and the effects of technology on humans. Paloma Navares's exhibition Luz de la intuición (Light of Intuition), curated and produced by the ENAIRE Foundation, will open the PHotoESPAÑA 24 festival at the Royal Botanical Garden in May.
The impressive work “Luz de pasado” by artist Paloma Navares, the 2024 ENAIRE Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award winner, will be at the Foundation's stand
Paloma Navares (Burgos 1947), who created her own plastic language characterised by the use of new technologies, was the most recent winner of the ENAIRE Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award, an honourable distinction that aims to recognise a whole artistic career dedicated to photography.
About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
