The Tablada Centenaria Association (Seville) appoints the ENAIRE Foundation as an honorary member
The ENAIRE Foundation has been appointed honorary member by the Tablada Centenaria Association, a non-profit organisation based in Seville dedicated to spreading aeronautical culture and history, and promoting technology projects of interest to the sector.
With this appointment, the ENAIRE Foundation, led by Margarita Asuar, and the Tablada Centenaria Association, chaired by aeronautical engineer and pilot José Luis de Augusto, kick off a period of collaboration that will allow both entities to take part in common activities to raise awareness of aeronautical culture, heritage and legacy.
Margarita Asuar: “Being an honorary member acknowledges the work of the ENAIRE Foundation, which, through this partnership, will strengthen its presence in Seville, the birthplace of air navigation in Spain”
To Asuar, “being an honorary member of the Tablada Centenaria Association is an acknowledgment of the work of the ENAIRE Foundation, giving us the opportunity to expand our support network with institutions and companies committed to spreading the culture and history of aviation”. In this regard, Asuar noted “the importance of initiating a partnership that will allow the ENAIRE Foundation to further strengthen its presence in Seville, the birthplace of air navigation in Spain”.
The partnership agreement between the two entities was made possible after the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and president of the ENAIRE Foundation, José Antonio Santano, welcomed the proposal to have the ENAIRE Foundation become an honorary member of the Tablada Centenaria Association, “a renowned institution in the sector, very beloved in Seville, whose purposes are consistent with our objectives”, explains Margarita Asuar.
ENAIRE's Civil-Military Coordination Director, General Juan Treceño, also welcomed the start of a collaboration with an association in which the Air and Space Force is also an honorary member, in whose facilities they carry out activities.
The commitment of the Tablada Centenaria Association is indistinguishable from the spirit of overcoming and the strength of character of its president, José Luis de Augusto, who is also the president of the Real Aeroclub de Sevilla. This aeronautical engineer and pilot suffered an accident on a test flight that left him paraplegic. After the accident, he created "NewWings", an accessible flight school where he teaches and trains aviation enthusiasts with mobility problems.
To Asuar, the president of the Tablada Centenaria Association is “an example of overcoming and an authority in the aviation sector, a world whose most stand-out feature is precisely the spirit of overcoming”. She went on to explain that “we will stand with Tablada Centenaria to support research and dissemination of aeronautical culture and heritage”.
ENAIRE's civil-military coordination manager, Juan Treceño, and the managing director of the ENAIRE Foundation, Margarita Asuar, will soon hold a meeting with the president of the Tablada Centenaria Association, José Luis de Augusto, and with its vice-president, Carlos Rivero, with the aim of furthering collaboration between the two institutions.
Tablada Centenaria Association
In 2023, José Luis de Augusto, President of the Real Aeroclub de Sevilla, with support from the Real Aeroclub de España, founded the Tablada Centenaria Association, a non-profit civil entity whose aim is to disseminate aeronautical culture and history, as well as to promote Tablada as an incubator for innovation and development projects, including for testing and developing new aerospace and air mobility technologies.
The Association also wants to restore the Tablada runway for aeronautical, sporting, cultural and historical uses, and to create a training centre adapted to new aerospace technologies, including new aerial vehicles, both manned and unmanned.
About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
