The ENAIRE Foundation installs an "Art capsule" at the Seve Ballesteros Airport, linking it to the Naves de Gamazo through a virtual tour
The ENAIRE Foundation has decided to boost its presence in Santander by installing an "Art capsule" at the Seve Ballesteros Airport, where travellers will be able to appreciate all the art/exhibit activity of the Naves de Gamazo through a 360º tour and virtual rooms.
The Managing Director of the ENAIRE Foundation, Margarita Asuar, presented these new museum resources of the digital era today at a work meeting of the three partner administrations in the Naves de Gamazo Art Centre in Santander.
The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and ENAIRE's chairman, Jose Antonio Santano, was very impressed with "the steps that the ENAIRE Foundation is taking to democratise access to art, which will undoubtedly be key to shining a light on everything that the Foundation does and will help to connect Santander even more with the world, this time by using digital resources applied to art”.

With the incorporation of these new digital tools into all its exhibition projects, the ENAIRE Foundation embodies the “process of democratising art and humanising airport spaces” that Margaret Asuar proposed to the Board of Trustees when she was appointed Managing Director a month and a half ago.
“In 45 days, the ENAIRE Foundation has developed a beta project for 'Art capsules', which we are going to implement in Spanish airports", explained Margarita Asuar.

These "Art capsules" will house open exhibitions in airport facilities. In this regard, the Managing Director of the ENAIRE Foundation notes that “we are humanising spaces that are points of connection with the world”.
The "Art Capsules" that will be installed in Spanish airports will also house virtual rooms so the public can enjoy an art experience at airports that connect them with the city, in this case with Santander, but one that can also be visited from anywhere in the world.
The first "Art capsule"
This first "Art capsule" set up at the Seve Ballesteros Santander Airport is home to a dual exhibition. The public will see an exhibition of Ciria's works that are part of the ENAIRE Collection, the continuation of which can be found at the Naves de Gamazo with the temporary exhibition "Pintura. Memoria y tiempo" (Painting, memory and time).
They can also see the exhibition "Me olvidé que te olvidaba" (I forgot I forgot you), a project by the Association of Women Artists "White, Black and Magenta", chaired by Santander resident Marga Colás, to raise awareness of Alzheimer's from the point of view of both the illness and of family and caregivers. This exhibition also continues at the Naves de Gamazo and is included in the new ConcienciARTE initiative of the ENAIRE Foundation.

The ConcienciARTE initiative of the ENAIRE Foundation includes socially significant art and aviation projects, through which "we seek to raise awareness and motivate research, shared responsibility and overcoming”, said Asuar.
In the words of the ENAIRE Foundation's Managing Director, “this initiative is an extension of Conciencia2, which displays works from the ENAIRE Collection on social, environmental and ethical issues. We wanted to expand it to aviation projects with a social impact, which we will be presenting soon, and cultural projects that open a dialogue or conversation through art with society, involving some of the artists with works in the ENAIRE Collection and other current artists”.
This time, the spotlight is on women artists because “in the ENAIRE Collection, as in all museums and collections around the world, they are under-represented, despite their quality and value, as the public will be able to see for themselves when they drop by the Airport and Naves de Gamazo”.
Virtual tours
Visitors will also come across a new museum resource: guided virtual tours, which are also accessible from anywhere in the world through the ENAIRE Foundation website.
Representatives from the three administrations were able to learn about the projects on display directly from the participating artists. Ciria presented the catalogue of her exhibition "Painting. Memory and time", alongside Marcos Barnatán. And Concha Mayordomo,Marga Colás, Blanca Tejerina, Angeles Saura and Eva Rodríguez presented the project "I forgot I forgot you".
Present were Eva Rodríguez, coordinator of the Naves de Gamazo, and, representing the ENAIRE Foundation, Ángeles Imaña, Director of Conservation and Cultural Projects.
“An essential part of carrying out this beta project with the new museum resources was the work done by the ENAIRE Foundation's staff, who in record time managed to execute the basic components, which we will start applying to other airport, aviation and art spaces”, said Margaret Asuar.
About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
