ENAIRE managed nearly 200,000 flights in April, 8.2% more than in 2023, a record year
ENAIRE, Spain's air navigation service provider, managed over nearly 200,000 flights (198,151) in April, 8.2% more than in the same month in 2023, a record year.
International flights (113,896) were up by 8.8%, domestic flights (39,986) by 7.8%, and overflights (44,269), which do not land at or depart from a Spanish airport, by 7.0%.
On 4 and 5 May, 7,065 and 6,999 flights were reported, a record figure and similar to summertime
The increase in Spain in April exceeded the European average of 6.9% by 1.3 percentage points.
All ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed: Barcelona registered 93,766 flights (+8.9%); Seville, 44,863 (+8.4%); Madrid, 107,754 (+7.0%); Canary Islands, 33,013 flights (+6.2%); and Palma, 30,916 (+2.5%).
Record in the first weekend of May
In addition, the first weekend of May started off with a number of flights managed similar to summertime: 7,065 on Saturday the 4th and 6,999 on Sunday the 5th, which was a new record for ENAIRE.
Cumulative data for 2024
In the first four months of the year, ENAIRE managed over 670,000 flights (672,442), 9.2% more than in the same period in 2023.
International flights from January to April (370,199) increased by 11.3%, overflights (158,318) by 7.4%, and domestic flights (143,925) by 6.0%.
The cumulative data for the year also show that all ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed: Seville, 159,999 flights managed, 10.8% more than in 2023; Barcelona, 290,197, +10.2% more; the Canary Islands, 138,381, +9.1%; Madrid, 391,735, +8.8%; and Palma, 72,659, +2.9%.

Within the framework of the organization’s successive strategic plans, the 2020 Flight Plan and the 2025 Flight Plan, safety, quality of service, efficiency and sustainability are ENAIRE’s priorities in flight management.
Furthermore, ENAIRE has been the European leader in the effectiveness of its Safety Management Systrem since 2019, achieving and maintaining the maximum possible result (100%) since 2020 for the fourth consecutive year.

ENAIRE has received the highest score in Europe on the aviation safety key performance indicator for four years in a row. It has also been awarded the EFQM 500 Seal for its safe, efficient, innovative and sustainable management of air navigation services.
