ENAIRE managed 234,000 flights in August, 6.1% more than in 2023, a record year
ENAIRE, Spain's air navigation service provider, managed over 234,000 flights (234,343) in August, 6.1% more than in the same month in 2023, a record year.
International flights in August (139,667) were up 8.2%, domestic flights (42,481) 3.2%, and overflights (52,195), which do not land at or depart from a Spanish airport, 3.0%.
This growth in air traffic in Spain in August exceeded the European average, which was 4.5%, by 1.6 percentage points.
All ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed, with the Barcelona centre managing the most flights in August: the Canary Islands registered 34,297 flights (+9.3%); Barcelona, 122,794 (+6.5%); Madrid, 116,759 (+5.6%); Palma, 51,014 (+5.6%); and Seville, 50,396 (+5.2%).

In the first eight months of the year, ENAIRE managed over 1.5 million flights (1,575,775), 8.1% more than in the same period in 2023. International flights from January to August (906,073) increased by 10.0%, overflights (357,168) by 5.8% and domestic flights (312,534) by 5.5%.
This growth in air traffic in Spain so far this year exceeds the European average, which is 5.7%, by 2.4 percentage points.
The cumulative data for the year also show that all ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed: the Canary Islands, 268,927 flights managed, 9.2% more than in 2023; Barcelona, 754,788, 8.7% more; Seville, 355,095, 8.4% more; Madrid, 850,071, 7.7% more; and Palma, 260,587, 5.5% more.

Within the framework of the organization’s successive strategic plans, the 2020 Flight Plan and the 2025 Flight Plan, safety, quality of service, efficiency and sustainability are ENAIRE’s priorities in flight management.
Furthermore, ENAIRE has been the European leader in the effectiveness of its Safety Management Systrem since 2019, achieving and maintaining the maximum possible result (100%) since 2020 for the fourth consecutive year.

ENAIRE has received the highest score in Europe on the aviation safety key performance indicator for four years in a row. It has also been awarded the EFQM 600 Seal for its safe, efficient, innovative and sustainable management of air navigation services.
