The ENAIRE Control Centre in Canaries managed 25,638 flights in February, up 3.8%

There were over 15,000 international flights, a rise of 9.7 %

The ENAIRE Control Centre in Canaries managed 25,638 flights in February, up 3.8% on the same month in 2016. 2016 was a leap year, so there was one more day.

ENAIRE, the air navigation manager in Spain, recorded a particular rise in activity among international flights, which in February grew to 15,351, or 9.7% more.

There were 8,119 domestic flights and 2,168 overflights (those that cross the Canary Island airspace and that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport).

Cumulative figures

In the first two months of the year, the ENAIRE Control Centre in Canaries managed 53,854 flights, 6.5% more, of which 32,231 were international (11.7%), 17,043 were domestic and 4,580 were overflights (1.1%).

The Canaries Control Centre manages air traffic services in a geographic area covering 1.5 Mn sq km, mostly over ocean and including the Canary Islands and part of the Western Sahara. It is the gateway to Latin America via the Atlantic.

Total flights managed by ENAIRE

ENAIRE managed 119,186 flights across Spain in February, a rise of 3.4% over the same month last year. It was the 41st month in a row of uninterrupted air traffic growth.

Growth was strongest amongst international flights, which climbed to 66,664, or 6% more than in February last year. They represented 56% of total traffic in Spain.

There were 26,298 overflights (those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport) (+3.3%).

Traffic was up across all ENAIRE control centres: Palma (6.6%, 9,574 flights), Seville (6.2%, 24,340 flights), Madrid (4.3%, 73,297 flights), Canaries (3.8%, 25,638 flights) and Barcelona (3.1%, 47,203 flights).

The cumulative figures for January and February show that ENAIRE managed 244,907 flights across Spain, 5.7% more. Of these, international flights (137,132) grew the most, at 8.4%.
