International air traffic managed by the ENAIRE Control Centre in Seville grew by more than 13% in February
The rise in overall operations was 6.2 %
The ENAIRE Control Centre in Seville managed a total of 11,314 international flights in February, 13.6 % more than the same month in 2016. 2016 was a leap year, so there was one more day.
The number of total flights in February climbed to 24,340, a rise of 6.2%.
The centre managed 7,025 domestic flights and 6,001 overflights (flights that cross the airspace managed from Seville and that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport).
Cumulative figures
In the first two months of the year, the Seville Control Centre managed 49,782 flights, 5.9% more, of which 22,822 were international (10.6%); 14,462 were domestic and 12,498 were overflights (6.5%).
The Seville Control Centre and its associated towers manage the air traffic for the whole of the south of the peninsula, including not just Andalusia but also the province of Badajoz, a good part of Ciudad Real, Albacete and Murcia, and the entire Bay of Cadiz and all of the western Mediterranean, in addition to Ceuta and Melilla.
Total flights managed by ENAIRE
ENAIRE managed 119,186 flights across Spain in February, a rise of 3.4% over the same month last year. It was the 41st month in a row of uninterrupted air traffic growth.
Growth was strongest amongst international flights, which climbed to 66,664, or 6% more than in February last year. They represented 56% of total traffic in Spain.
There were 26,298 overflights (those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport) (+3.3%).
Traffic was up across all ENAIRE control centres: Palma (6.6%, 9,574 flights), Seville (6.2%, 24,340 flights), Madrid (4.3%, 73,297 flights), Canaries (3.8%, 25,638 flights) and Barcelona (3.1%, 47,203 flights).
The cumulative figures for January and February show that ENAIRE managed 244,907 flights across Spain, 5.7% more. Of these, international flights (137,132) grew the most, at 8.4%.
