ENAIRE managed 166,582 flights across Spain in April, a rise of 9.8%
All ENAIRE control centres posted growth of over 9%
ENAIRE, the company responsible for air navigation in Spain, managed 166,582 flights in April, 9.8% more than the same month in 2016, although Easter was from 13-17 April, whereas last year it was in March.
It was the 43rd month in a row of uninterrupted air traffic growth.
The segment that grew the most was international, with 99,347 flights, a rise of 11.7%. There were 31,562 domestic flights (up 2.3%) and 35,673 overflights (those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport) (+11.9%).
The control centre that posted the highest growth was Palma, with 23,130 flights (+19.7%), followed by Canaries, with 27,944 (+11%). Madrid handled 94,311 flights (+10.4%); Barcelona, 75,286 (+9.8%) and Seville, 33,396 (+9.5%).
Figures from first four months of the year
The cumulative figure for the number of flights ENAIRE handled across Spain between January and April was 552,204, a growth of 6.6% and much higher than the European average of 2.8%. Of these, 315,793 were international flights, which at 8.4% was the segment with the highest growth, comprising 57% of total traffic in Spain.
Traffic rose across all the control towers in the first four months of the year: Palma (9.2%, 55,444 flights), Seville (7.5%, 112,299 flights), Madrid (7.2%, 329,000 flights), Canaries (7.1%, 110,196 flights) and Barcelona (6.2%, 230,083 flights).
