The ENAIRE Foundation presents the “Colección Norte. Homo Habitant” exhibit
Today, Friday, 5 October at 10:00 p.m., an outdoor projection by photographer José Manuel Ballester will be shown on the façade of the Naves de Gamazo. This event, open to the public as part of the programming of PHotoESPAÑA Santander, will have 8 showings lasting 11 minutes each, and will provide a great opportunity to admire the work of one of the most important artists in contemporary photography. A unique show where the works break down barriers and are shown outside the Naves de Gamazo, which in July marked two years since opening.
The ENAIRE Foundation premieres the exhibit in the Naves de Gamazo, in Santander, titled Colección Norte. Homo Habitant, in which a selection of pieces by important national and international contemporary artists will take visitors on an interesting journey through some of the most outstanding works in the Colección Norte (Northern Collection), belonging to the Government of Cantabria.
The exhibit, produced and curated by the ENAIRE Foundation, examines how human beings are aware of their unique character and how their concerns lead them to change both their appearance and needs, adding artifacts to their daily lives. It also explores how man's way of living and its psychology influence the environment, encroaching on nature to the limit before eventually building megacities where they finally find refuge. That is where man can be its own essence, feeling protected without the need to maintain its social artifice.
The collective exhibit presents 42 works by 21 national and 16 international artists, including: Burtynsky, Vik Muniz, Cristina García Rodero, Marina Abramovich, Basílico, Pierre Gonnord, Jaume Plensa, Bleda Y Rosa, Yasumasa Morimura, Cándida Hoffer, George Rousse, José Cobo, Adrian Tyler, Marina Nuñez, Eva Lootz, and others.
A selection of works that also delves into the relationship between the individual and the territory, and provides an opportunity for lovers of contemporary art and all those interested in reflecting on the relationship between human beings and their environment, since it beckons visitors to plunge into a visual, conceptually inspirational and reflective dialogue.
The showing is divided into five thematic areas: ·
- The self, a portrait of being essential
- Self-construction: our own image
- Meta habitat: landscape altered by humans
- Dedicated space: what restlessness make us build
- Living core: where we finally live.
These are themes that invite us to reflect on how we interact with the world around us and how our identities are influenced by the spaces we inhabit. With a selection of pieces from various disciplines, the exhibit seeks to create a unique visual and sensory experience for visitors.
This collection was curated by Ángeles Imaña, director of cultural activities at the ENAIRE Foundation, who notes that "Nothing can motivate you more when working on an exhibit than having at your disposal a series of works that, due to their quality, make it difficult to choose and whose themes offer several narrative threads".
Painting, photography, sculpture and other audiovisual media by the most prestigious artists - some native to Cantabria - but also important figures of national and international art, are part of the Northern Collection of Contemporary Art, demonstrating the interest and commitment to art and culture that has always defined Cantabria.
About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda (MITMA), the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
