Girl's Day in the Air: students from all over the country visit ENAIRE's offices to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child
ENAIRE's facilities and control centres in Santiago, Madrid, Barcelona and central services were opened simultaneously on Thursday the 4th to receive nearly 100 students at its facilities on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child.
This day, which is celebrated worldwide on 11 October, seeks to recognise the rights of girls and the unique challenges they face all over the world, as well as to promote their empowerment and ensure their human rights. Currently, women account for 35% of ENAIRE's workforce. Through this activity, ENAIRE wishes to highlight the key role that women have in the aeronautical sector, in order to inspire girls and young women in up-and-coming generations by showing them first-hand that there should be no barriers when choosing a career. It also furthers female empowerment as part of ENAIRE's commitment to achieving SDG 5 "Gender equality" of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
ENAIRE, through its EnFemenino, en igualdad network, and in collaboration with the Inspiring Girls Foundation, has developed this initiative as part of the protocol signed by the two entities in December 2022. This agreement aims to strengthen the skills and address the concerns of girls and young women on the wide variety of professions that are open to them in the field of providing services to assist air navigation and the field of aviation in general.
During the activity, students of the CPR Emma (Santiago de Compostela), Escola Montserrat (Cornellá de Llobregat) and CEIP San Sebastián (San Sebastián de los Reyes) were able to get a close-up look at this sector and the work that ENAIRE's professionals do. In addition to visiting the control rooms in Madrid and Barcelona, the simulators, the Santiago Control Tower and Gamma Sim at Central Services, the students had a chance to attend presentations and interact with some of our air female air traffic controllers, engineers, and operations and maintenance technicians.
