International air traffic managed by the ENAIRE Control Centre in Barcelona has risen by nearly 10%
Of the almost 50,000 total flights, more than 30,000 were with other countries
The ENAIRE Control Centre in Barcelona managed a total of 30,598 international flights in January 2017, 9.8% more than the same month the previous year.
The total number of January flights came in at 49,141, around 7.5% more and vastly above the European average last month (+2.7%).
There was a 4.3% rise in domestic flights (11,309), while overflights (those that neither start nor end in the east of the Iberian Peninsula) grew by 3.4% to a total of 7,234.
ENAIRE, the air navigation manager in Spain, handled a total of 125,721 flights in January 2017, 8% more than the same month last year. International traffic posted its highest-ever growth: 70,468 flights, up 10.8%. There was also a record number of overflights (those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport), with 27,884 flights (+6.5%).
