Our innovation strategy

ENAIRE’s innovation strategy (PIENSA) focuses on two strategic initiatives:

1. Implementation of ENAIRE’s Innovation Management System

ENAIRE structures its innovation activities through a systematic approach to managing innovation, helping to foster synergies and achieve more efficient management of all R&D activity.

Knowledge Management:
- Encourage creativity
- Generate knowledge
- Identify technological needs
- Search for, process, and share information related to R&D
- Protect ENAIRE's R&D results

Innovation Project Management:
- Align innovation activities with ENAIRE’s corporate strategy
- Provide systematic support for innovation projects
- Monitor indicators and results
- Lessons learned
- Track implementation and impact

2. CRIDA as an engine of innovation

Maintain and strengthen the current cooperation between CRIDA and ENAIRE in R&D activities and develop solutions of interest to ENAIRE for future implementation, with the aim of integrating them into ENAIRE’s ATM system.

Support ENAIRE in innovation projects, both internal and international.
Develop technological solutions for implementation at ENAIRE.
Create analytical and research tools for the Air Navigation System to support diagnostics and performance assessment.
Open innovation management (knowledge ecosystem: scholarships, start-ups, idea and challenge competitions, and more).

At ENAIRE, continuous improvement in safety is a key objective. To achieve this, it is essential to explore new lines of research that can deliver benefits in the future. In this regard, ENAIRE works together with CRIDA on innovation projects aimed at:

Providing methodologies for research into fatigue and stress through data processing and automation.
Researching predictive fatigue models to support the investigation of events reported to the Fatigue and Stress Risk Management System (FSRMS).

These two initiatives define four main areas of action:

1. Area of internal Innovation

Main actions:

Drive the generation of innovative ideas within the organisation.
Foster the talent of ENAIRE's professionals.
Help innovators transform their ideas by helping them develop the project.

Expected results:

Generate an idea bank.
Systematisation and project management of the various innovation activities carried out at ENAIRE.

2. Area of innovation within the SESAR framework

R&D. Main actions:

Continue ENAIRE's participation in European R&D projects within the framework of the SESAR programme and as a member of the partnerships responsible for its management.
Promote the integration of SESAR solutions that are at a sufficient stage of maturity to be implemented and deployed.

Expected results:

ENAIRE Member of SESAR JU since 2008.
Current participation in SESAR 2020 (2017-2023).
Members of SESAR 3:
- European R&D until 2031.
- €1.6 billion programme, with €600 million from Horizon Europe funds.

Innovation Deployment. Main actions:

Promote the integration of SESAR solutions that are at a sufficient stage of maturity to be implemented and deployed.

Expected results:

Derive benefits from these new solutions.
Lower R&D costs for our systems evolution by working jointly with experts across Europe and accessing grants.

3. Open Innovation area

Main actions:

Attract new, innovative companies to a favourable environment.
Accelerate technology development.
Support the sourcing of external resources for R&D activities.
Gain a better understanding of market needs and trends.

Expected results:

Establish strategic partnerships.
Commercialise and scale up R&D activities.
Make it easier to integrate innovations, mature them, enable active interaction and realise their value.
Prioritise action on market needs and trends.
